Hello 7-2 Students, Parents and Families! I'm hosting another homeroom meeting online with students.  This meeting will be for us to check-in with one another and see if anyone has questions about any assignments from their teachers.  It will occur on Tuesday, April 14th at 11:00AM. Our Google Meet code is 7-2ClassMeeting.  Below are the instructions to join.  This will also be sent by school messenger: 1. Go to meet.google.com close to the time of the scheduled meeting and log in using your username@educbe.ca email 2. Copy the nickname from the invite. 7-2ClassMeeting 3. Click on the green ‘Use a Meeting Code’ button. 4. Enter the nickname into the meeting code box and click Continue. 5. Once you click Continue, and if I am present, you will be taken to the waiting room. 6. The final step is to click on the green ‘Join now’ button to enter the meeting room. (if the teacher is not present in the room, the student will receive a messaging stating they cannot create meetings). 7. When our time is over you must leave the Meet session and close down your browser window. Here are some protocols (rules) for having such meetings: 1. Choose a room where there will be little or no distractions. 2. Be careful to look around at what your classmates might see and ensure all is appropriate. 3. When you enter the Meeting Room, mute your mic (this will allow us to gather before we begin talking). 4. Open the comment tab so you can type questions and comments as we begin our conversation. Just a reminder, the environment has been made safe; students have to log in with their CBE mail accounts and passwords.  There were a few glitches last this week, but we are all still learning.  Some students left the meeting and re-joined to fix the lag.  I just want each student and parent to be aware this is happening on Tuesday, April 14, so you know what you are up to! For All Slide Show Lessons: Download slide show to your device. Present/play slide show Hover over pictures to see “hand” or link OR I've added links to the bottom left hand side of the slide or under the picture that should take you to the video... Click on hand or link.  It should open up the video After reading slide show and watching videos, put the slide show in your trash so it doesn’t take up memory or space on your device. SCIENCE (about 2.5 hrs/wk):

Heat & Temperature I CAN Statements Here are this week's learning tasks:       Check out the wonderful Particle Poems you've shared!  Click here (About 1 hr) Please download and review L4 Expansion & Contraction.  (video -links) Please complete and submit Activity #1. (You can type it in a google.doc or you can complete it with lined paper and pencil.).   Print Activity #1 here and complete.   **Optional (printing it out) 2.     (About 2 hrs) Please download and review L6 Transferring Energy. (lots of videos)  **Optional - Print Heat Transfer Booklet here and complete.

MATH (about 2.5 hrs/wk):

Textbook, Chapter 2 - Decimal Operations,  Check Answers here CH 2 Decimal Operations I CAN Statements **Answer KEY to 2.3 Practice  (Please look at it if you were stuck, but also to see the wok you should be doing/showing) Here are this week's learning tasks:  1.       (About 15 min.) Copy (or print) and complete the Entrance Slip for Dividing Decimals.  Share @ clingram@cbe.ab.ca.  (You must show me your "thinking" for the estimation ad your long division process for the "calculate" - no calculator)  2.       (About 15 min.) Review the Order of Operations (BEDMAS/PEMDAS) chart.            **Optional - Copy or print the chart in the math section of your visual journal. 3.       (About 1 hr) Please download and review L4 Order of Operations and complete the assigned practice from the last slide.   (Please use a calculator when solving these questions).  4.     (About 1 hr - only do as much as you can from the 2.5 hrs total spent on math)        Please choose one (**Optional - or more) of the following activities to print and complete: ·   Order of Operations Practice & Art #1.        Key #1 ·   Order of Operations Practice & Art #2.        Key #2 ·   Order of Operations Maze                             Key #3 (No calculators used with these practices, beware - all three have exponents.  {93 means 9x9x9, not 9x3}.  The first two practices require you to solve the problem, find the square that has your corresponding answer and then colour in that square with the same pattern as the square assigned to that question.  It will make a design or pattern if you do it correctly)        OR,  Visit AAAMath.com and complete the following practice on paper with pencil (following the examples given): ·   Order of Operations I (10 questions)  ·   Order of Operations II (10 questions) (No calculators used with these practices, there are no exponents present in these practices)

Meeting with Students of 7- 2 Tuesday, April 7

Week of March 30 - April 3

Dear Parents and Guardians, We hope that this email finds you and your family in good health, and we are excited to reconnect with one another again.  Thank you for your patience as we have worked through some necessary planning in preparation for resuming structured learning opportunities for your child. We understand there has been a lot of uncertainty about what learning is going to look like moving forward.  We can assure you that we are going to work on key learning outcomes at-home within the parameters established by the province and CBE. To help us understand your family’s access to technology and well-being, can you please provide an email response to your child’s homeroom teacher regarding the following 5 questions: 1.   Does your child have access to a computer, laptop, iPad/tablet, smart phone? 2.   Does your child have access to the Internet? 3.   Is your only option a paper-based education for your child? 4.   How is your family doing?  5.   Is there anything we can do to help assist your child with their learning?                                                                                                                                     Starting Wednesday, April 1, 2020, you will receive a weekly learning plan in the core subjects from your teachers.  These learning plans will be accessible through the Math, Science, and Humanities Teachers’ blogs.  Each week’s plan will highlight what we are working on, will include various resources and will explain the activities or tasks we would like your child to work on. During this online learning period, teachers will be available via email during regular school hours from 9am -12:00pm and 1:00pm - 4:00pm.  Teachers will not be available in the evenings or on the weekends, but will reply to you in a timely manner.  As per Alberta Education guidelines, each student in grade 7 should be averaging 10 hours per week.  We’ve decided to split the learning time evenly among the four core subjects:  Math, Science, & Humanities (Social Studies and Language Arts/Literacy). We will primarily be communicating with you and your child through our class blogs, in conjunction with Google Apps that students are already familiar with.  We are still exploring the use of potential video or live lessons as we are still navigating an online learning format.   Students will continue to turn in their assignments via google docs.   We recognize this is new for most of us and we will get through this together.  We are here for your child and look forward to being in regular contact with your child and yourself. Hi Everyone, Welcome back!  I hope you are all doing okay and had a good Spring Break even though it may have been a bit different than you originally planned...  I know some of you are missing your regular routine of school, your friends, and your extra-curricular activities and may be a bit anxious about continuing your learning online.  I will be trying to keep it similar to what we would be doing if we were in the classroom rather than at home.  Please remember to reach out to me through email if you have any questions or need help.  I will be available for most of the school hours other than when I am in virtual meetings.  All of us teachers are self-isolating and working from our homes, just like you!
